Why ‘Rattlesnake Books’? Rattlesnake after HMS Rattlesnake, one of four British warships at the Battle of Muizenberg 1795 marking the first English occupation of the Cape. A dramatic event, a distinctive name and a nod to our forebears. And books, because of the love affair.
We buy and sell books (from paperbacks to leather bound antiquarian volumes), original art, engravings, prints, maps, ephemera, objets d’art and curios. We also offer a book repair and full rebinding service as well as undertaking binding commissions.
Although we specialise in Africana (the exploration, military history, natural history, art etc of Africa) we always stock modern first editions, antiquarian volumes and fine bindings, art, literary paperback fiction and good quality general stock.
Please contact us for further details by phone, email or in person. Come and visit our shop or catch the Rattlesnake at any one of a number of markets and fairs in Cape Town and Stellenbosch. We regularly exhibit at:
Blue Bird Market, Muizenberg, Fridays 4.00pm to 10.00pm
Alphen Antiques Fair, opposite Constantia Village Mall, 2nd and 4th Sundays monthly, 10.00am to 4.00pm
Kelvin Grove Antiques Fair, Newlands & Blaauklippen Antiques Fair, Stellenbosch.
Both markets operate on an ad hoc basis so please contact us in advance to check that anybody is actually there.
